I am completely astonished by what this wild, wonderful group of artists has created! I can’t remember a dance performance that I’ve enjoyed more. Blanket, picnic, mask, and some of the most entertaining and inventive theater you are likely to see. I hope that even after the pandemic passes, (please God, let it be soon 🙏🏻) SB and his crew will continue rolling up to the curbs of SLC and beyond! Bravo!
All the reviews cannot say quite enough to adequately express how delightful, how talented they are , and how thrilling it is to be immersed in SB's Curbside presentation. It was a beyond beyond creative response to the closing down of all indoor entertainment. But I can only hope that this little traveling outdoor jewel will be available next year and for years to come. I would have them for every special occasion. No pandemic required!! Absolutely loved it, . . . again, . . . and I wish I could see it yet again before the snow flies. Thank you so much Stephen and crew.
It's no exaggeration to say that SB Dance's Curbside Theater was one of the highlights of our summer. The performance was fabulous -- jazzy, fun, warm, generous, and, maybe above all, connecting. To have the chance to again see dance and hear music and to do so in our own front yard surrounded by neighbors who all longed to again connect with the arts and with each other -- it was really magical. Thank you!
An evening with SB Dance always feels like being transported through the Wardrobe or Looking Glass depending on the night. But the post-COVID Curbside theater is special. It has turned the tables on art, beautifully performed in its spare simplicity, by towing it to the neighborhoods in the flatbed of a Tacoma pickup. Sparkling gems that remind us that even in challenging times there live among us a few Salt Lakers that can still bring magic.
The first show was with neighbors as we sat on the lawn and watched the stage performance on my driveway. I was so in awe of the performance under the lights and stars that I booked Curbside again to celebrate my birthday a month later! The dancers and soloist were fabulous and so talented. It's like the arts making house calls! So impressed with their commitment to sharing the arts when we cannot be under one roof.
The performance brought out several neighbors who enjoyed the show. It was wonderful. The musicians, Raffi and Ischa added a beautiful element to the evening.
A local park curbside worked out well (I live on a hill).
Friends sat on a bank under a silvery, full moon having watched an orange sunset chatting and picnicking. The float rolled in with 2 chair props and lighting was erected.
* The artistry of the dancer and the graceful dance -
would have been enough, but there was more.........
*A singer, dressed for a club, with a beautiful voice - would have been enough, but there was more..........
*A guitarist accompaniment - would have been enough, but there was more.......
Stephen’s imaginative leadership, creative dance and well chosen music, and and and daring, always, had us afloat on the joy of the evening. Thank you all.
The theaters may have gone dark during Covid but the craving for music and dance can be satisfied due to the innovation and creativity of Stephen Brown and his fabulous troupe of performers. His curbside theater brings the arts to the people in an incredible and joyous manner.
Thank you Stephen for keeping the arts alive as you and your performers ride in, not on a magical carpet, but on a magical trailer that provides us a welcome escape from the pandemic, natural disasters and politics.
Kudos and 5 stars to you.
Even without a pandemic, the SB Dance Curbside theater was such a breath of fresh air. Freed from the constraints of a theater space, or the expectations of time and audience, the SB Dance team has created a unique, touching and highly entertaining production. I've seen it twice now, and would easily be convinced to see it again. I hope that artists like this never lose their spirit of creativity, they are an inspiration to us all!
In this dark tine of Covid, the fragility of democratic ideals unmasked and all that goes with both, it was such a beautiful balm the soul to have SB Dance bring beauty to our curbside. Stephen is such a treasure in this city. What an innovative way to keep the performing arts alive. To see a live performance from the porch was a dream. Thank you, thank you. A magnificent experience that practically made me cry to have such joy and beauty no matter how briefly for an evening.
These performances were a gift this summer and the curbside delivery just took the concept of “creative arts” to a whole new level. Our neighbors gathered 3 different times over the summer with friends outside, distanced, and masked to experience the beauty and talent of SB Dance. It soothed the soul and satisfied our hunger for art and culture at a time many of us were feeling deprived. Not only did the singers and dancers execute beautifully, but the set up and lighting was incredibly dialed and well thought out. It was such a treat to hear the voice of an incredibly talented singer and watch the clever choreography and stunning dancers create such beauty before my eyes. This lightened my heart and soul when I needed it most. Thank you for this gift and I just wish I could share this with all the people I love. Thank you SB Dance!
What a shot of joy for my art-starved soul. Thank you Stephen & Company!
In a time of not being able to fill our days with culture entertainment, it was so refreshing to see some familiar faces while being entertained.
The most amazing thing about the show is how seamless it was between acts while still maintaining a clean and safe place for the entertainers. I've seen the show at two different locations and I plan on making it to more. It's important to support our local arts and performers. I recommend that everyone get out and see it at least once or twice...
This is such a fantastic idea. The SB Dance performance in our driveway was the the entertainment high point of the summer. Our group of (socially distanced) partiers loved the bejeezus out of it. So much fun - I hope you continue to offer this, even when things return to fabulous.
The sky was thick with smoke or inversion, or whatever 2020 apocalyptic funk wafted around us, yet we all smiled, tapped our toes and shed a few grateful tears as SBDance performed two routines that made us forget about pandemics, earthquakes, tornado-force winds, and fires. What a breath of fresh air! The performance lasted long enough for us to feel we saw something complete, yet was so brief and powerful it left us wanting more! My neighbors are still talking about it!
Hard to explain the feelings that well when you experience live dancers, musicians, singers in your driveway! We five watchers shed happy tears. It was joyous! We felt our hearts again! Talk about a gift! You left us wanting more! You released us and reconnected us and let us remember there's nothing like the real thing. Nothing! The set up and take down was genius. Thank you SBDance. Please please do a final Fall Tailgate to get us all through the winter. You are brilliant! We all felt human again.
We drove up the canyon to an outdoor parking lot for this show. The performance was creative and fun, and the scenery was beautiful! People set up socially distanced chairs to watch and wore masks. This is a safe way to have a great night out and see an incredibly unique show!!!
A unique and wonderful experience.! The singing was beautiful and the dancing amazing. We were totally enthralled with the performance. A wonderful opportunity to introduce Stephen Brown dance to my neighbors. Everyone loved the performance! Thank you SBDance!!!
What a unique experience. I have missed live dance performances and this hit the spot. The singer was phenomenal. I would show up just to listen to her sing but what a bonus to have live dance as well.
Looking forward to new shows. Loved being able to have a little picnic before. It was difficult to social distance as people arrived late and just sat wherever. Perhaps predetermined suggested spots? IDK. Not sure but I will attend again.
Thank you!
We're getting better spacing folks out. We also require everyone to wear masks. Thanks for coming!
