Sponsoring Curbside Theater

Curbside Theater is a mobile outdoor platform for a concert experience of dance, music, and theatricality. It is produced by SB Dance, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that received a prestigious National Endowment for the Arts Grant for the Curbside 2023/24 season. The Curbside program was created by SB Dance and is the only one of its kind in the nation.

The current show, Tarotville is a Tarot reading where the audience gets involved by choosing each “card”. Enjoyed by adults from all walks of life and kid-friendly, Tarotville features an international songbook sung in French, Spanish, German, and English and appeals to a multi-generational, multi-cultural audience.

ORIGIN
Curbside Theater was made in response to the shutdown of 2020, an obstacle that prevented audiences from engaging with live performing art. Later, we discovered Curbside solves many other obstacles that prevent people from going to the theater: geographic isolation, affordability, the sense of belongingness, and changing cultural attitudes.

COMMUNITIES SERVED
Our secret sauce is the ability to set up almost anywhere. Curbside Theater’s geographic area is concentrated in Salt Lake County but also reaches other areas of the Wasatch Front and state. The program has visited diverse communities from Alta to the Jordan River, from downtown Salt Lake and Ogden to rural Boulder Utah. Running from the end of September through the beginning of October, our 2024 season is projected to reach over 2,500 people.

GOALS
The mission of Curbside Theater is to take professional-level craftsmanship and innovation to where people live, work, and play. More than 80% of the Curbside audience rarely or never steps foot into standard performance venues. This represents an immense market that dwarfs the audience for traditional theaters.
